BIODEGRADABLE BIOPLASTIC BASED ON ORANGE PEEL AS A MATERIAL FOR PREPARING CONTAINERS

We are currently experiencing the loss of ecosystems due to pollution. One of the main causes of said losses is related to plastic containers made from by-products of the petrochemical industry and derivatives thereof. It has additionally been shown that approximately 30% of food grown worldwide is lost and that many by-products of the agri-food industry are not used correctly. As such, food by-products, especially orange peel, can be used to create a bioplastic, which is the subject matter of our patent. In other words, the invention relates to a bioplastic prepared from orange peel, starch, chitin and biodegradable activated carbon, which is considered by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to be a material generally recognized as safe (GRAS) as said components used together with acetic acid are not harmful if ingested.
